  "I HEAR AMERICA SINGING"
 with Arsenal Technical's Top Choir, 'Techoir'

Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th St. Indianapolis

The season begins Oct. 6 with “I Hear America Singing,” a concert featuring repertoire that reflects and considers the diverse heritages of America. The singers of Arsenal Technical High School’s top choir, Techoir, will join Encore singers for the choirs’ fifth collaboration. From African American composers like Moses Hogan and Nathaniel Dett to Native American, female, and Chinese American composers, “I Hear America Singing” will bring the performers and audience together at a time when political divisiveness threatens to overwhelm that which unites us.




"CELEBRATING LIVES"

Pleasant View Lutheran Church, 803 West 73rd St., Indianapolis

Celebrate All Saints Day with Encore Vocal Arts and our friends at Pleasant View Lutheran by enjoying a diverse program of songs honoring saints. Composers include John Rutter, Jaako Mantyjärvi, Johannes Brahms, and Arvo Pärt. Encore’s nonprofit partner presenting this concert will be Brooke’s Place for Grieving Children.

For the holiday season, Encore will perform Georg Friedrich Handel’s stunning Messiah accompanied by the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. This will be the 3rd collaboration between Encore and the ICO to perform Messiah.
 


THE MYTH, THE HERO, AND THE LEGEND
Sat. Feb. 9, 2013  8pm 
Location to be determined

“The Myth, the Hero, and the Legend” will usher in 2013 with an inspired program of songs that explore the stages of a hero’s journey, as described by Joseph Campbell in The Power of Myth. Top choral and orchestral students from Zionsville High School will join Encore singers for this spirited concert. Repertoire includes Eric Whitacre’s legendary Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine, John Williams’ Duel of the Fates from Star Wars: The Phantom  Menace, Handel’s See the Conquering Hero, and more.

"IMPRESSIONABLE"

Freidens United Church of Christ, 8300 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis

Encore closes the season with “Impressionable,” featuring music from and inspired by the early 20th-century Impressionist artistic movement in France. Music for a capella choir and organ accompaniment include Fauré, Debussy, Poulenc, and Duruflé, four pillars of French Impressionist music.
